Web Designer for Lowe’s

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

Got the job at Lowe’s as a Web Production Designer a month ago. Just wanted to share some of the things I’ve been working on. I’ve been working on illustrations, cropping photos, getting things ready for the web and exporting XML files. Only problem is it’s only a 2-month+ contract, so I will be looking for new employment very soon.
It’s been very exciting learning how a large company like Lowe’s works. Everything is organized down to a tee! Everyone knows what their job duties are and what they should be working on at all times, it definitely makes a change. I always hear how people don’t like working in cubicles. But I don’t think it’s all that bad. I like hearing what’s going on around me and it’s very easy to talk to people since they can never close a door.

New job

After searching for two months, I landed a perfect new job. I was starting to feel a little hopeless, and then all the sudden I had four interviews and two offers in one week. I was very excited to accept the offer from Waterfront Communities, Inc. to be their Graphic/Web Designer.

Waterfront Communities has developed and marketed 36 luxury waterfront communities in the southern United States. My primary job will be to redesign/update some of the websites for the communities that they are currently marketing, here is one: http://summerhousenc.com/. They are currently outsourcing all of their print material to design firms, but the hope is to bring it in-house, which I think is a great idea.

40 hours a week - here I come

I got a job!
I just put in my first 40-hour work week. I got my first full-time graphic design job! I had been freelancing for UNC Charlotte’s College of Computing and Informatics since October 2006, and they decided to hire me full-time. I am their only graphic designer, so I am sure it will take a few months for everything to smooth out. I will be in charge of creating promotional materials for prospective students and donors, event branding for on-going conferences and events (invitations, programs, posters and name tags), announcements for TVs, photographing events, hopefully redesigning their website, and anything else they throw my way.
